Evaluating the Effectiveness of the Anti-Mold Coating Fungosil
The anti-mold coating Fungosil has been developed for treating surfaces of various materials damaged by mold, in order to stop the further spread of mold fungi. It inhibits mold growth by blocking the transport of water and nutrients. Fungosil is an anti-mold coating, meaning it covers the mold-affected area and provides long-term protection. It is also quick and easy to use – if there is no significant mold colony on the surface, it’s only necessary to ensure the surface is clean and dry. Then, the Fungosil coating is applied to the surface and spread evenly with a cloth. It’s that simple. The effectiveness of Fungosil won’t be visible immediately, but the coating works in the long term and delivers results. That’s exactly what we wanted to demonstrate by conducting an experiment to show how effectively our anti-mold coating Fungosil works.
The experiment was conducted using mold from the Penicillium genus, which is well-known and one of the most widespread fungi. Penicillium is found in various habitats, ranging from soil to vegetation, and even in the air, indoor environments, and various food products.

To conduct the experiment, we used agar plates in Petri dishes, which are commonly used to culture microorganisms. Individual microorganisms placed on the medium grow into separate colonies. We prepared two small samples from the Penicillium mold and placed them in two separate agar plates. The first plate served as a control, in which the mold was allowed to grow freely. This would later allow us to compare how much the mold spreads in contrast to the second agar plate, which was first treated with the anti-mold coating Fungosil before the mold sample was introduced. This second plate would help evaluate how well the anti-mold coating works.

The plates were stored at room temperature for two weeks, allowing the mold to grow.

After two weeks, we observed the results. As shown in the image below, the mold in the first control plate had spread significantly. From the original mold sample, the colony had grown approximately ten times in size. In contrast, in the second plate treated with the anti-mold coating Fungosil, the mold was unable to grow or spread. Fungosil achieved its goal — it stopped the further spread and growth of mold.
